FMP - Samples

I've being doing some more samples for my book as I plan to do at least 10 digital drawings and 10 traditional drawings for Tuesday so I can move on to my generation of idea. I've been experimenting with colour in these pieces. I went for a scribble / messy looking line and used block colours which I think makes it stand out. There isn't a great amount of detail such as highlighting the grass and rocks as I wanted it to look basic.  I shall update more on the other drawings I do.

FMP- Primary research

I'm on my last week of doing primary research as I need to start my generation of ideas and developing my work. Since I left my book at home last weekend I'm going to spend this weekend doing my digital / traditional drawings for my samples in my book. At the moment I've done two digital drawings of the aquarium fish tanks and two traditional drawings. Since my scanner won't work because my printer won't let me do anything until I change its ink I only have the two samples for now.

FMP - Research

Well this week I have been rather busy with college and with not being at home the majority of this week I haven't been able to access my blog but since I have a few hours spare before I go out I thought I would update what I have been doing this week. I seem to have left my book at college so scans of my book won't be put on until next week. On Tuesday evening I went out with my friend Becca and took photos of landscapes and environments for primary research. We went round areas in Rosley and Crofton and visited a forest, old barn and a ice house.

FMP - Brief

I have finally tackled my brief which I have been putting off this holiday, even thought I'm not sure whether I was suppose to do it anyways as I might be doing it when I go back to college next week but the fact I won't have to worry about it is a big relief. When I first looked at the criteria we were suppose to write I had no idea what I was going to do as I have never wrote my own brief before but I thought I might as well just give it a go and see if I can fill in the guidelines which are required. I've gone over a little bit on the word count but once I have it checked by my tutor I will post it up :) one less thing to stress about now !

FMP- Work

I've been wanting to use this blog a lot more  as I feel it gets rather neglected so I thought every time I'm on my laptop and have done some work for my final major project I will update on my progress whether it would be a written post or show images of my work from my sketch book/ digital work.

Well for the past two days I have been trying to come up with an original theme or character to base my concept art work as I told my tutor I would have it done by the end of the holidays. It has been very hard to come with an original theme as everything I had came up with weren't really original at all and were already ideas from existing games. Then finally something clicked in my head which I thought would be a good idea for a game which I'm not going to reveal my idea yet until I've discussed it with my tutor but its based on a dog. I have been brainstorming loads on what the story of this dog could be as I want to make this game for ages 7+ and in a fantasy kind of theme. I have also jotted down some ideas for actions, weaknesses, energy boosts,  and locations and what scenes I could possibly do for concept art. Its early days at the moment as I'm only suppose to be spending time on research at the moment but now I have a got an idea for a game its took a bit of stress away.

FMP - Artists

Today I have been looking into Concept Artists for inspiration and influence on my project. I've looked into three different artists so far which work I have found has been amazing. I've collected a range of images from each artist as research in my sketch book.

The first artist I looked at was Adam Brockbank:

The second artist I looked at was Philip Straub:

And the third artist I looked at was Gary Tonge:

FMP - Aquarium

I went to Maryport Aquarium the other week which I had been wanting to go to for ages as I haven't been since I was little. I thought it would be a good idea to take some photos of the fish tanks with the different environments for inspiration and research for my project since I want to explore different areas in game design. With these photos I'm planning on experimenting with digital and traditional drawings.

FMP

Final major project has started now which is pretty scary and over the Easter holidays I have been set to do research on coming up with ideas to base a project on. My specialist area I want to go into is Game Design and since I don't know how to use the proper software to create a game yet I've decided I want to do concept art since I love doing Illustrations. My project will be called 'Digital versus Drawing' and at the moment I have been researching into all different types of concept artist and different areas in games design such environment design, landscape design, Character design etc. I've decided to have a go at doing some research into Landscape design and I went out and took photos of different locations with beautiful landscapes. I visited Allonby beach during the evening to try and catch the sunset, then I went to Buttermere to take photos of different mountains and hills and also to find a waterfall and the last place I visited was Keswick down by the lake. I wanted to take photos for inspiration and also to experiment with my theme of digital versus traditional drawing so these photos will be the starting point with experimenting with different drawing techniques which I will do in my sketch book. Here are a few examples of my photos-
